as a programmer i’m probably too optimistic about this stuff, but imo the “hard” part of self-driving cars is interacting with humans... once we’re 100% autonomous, with electric motors and tweels, all manner of breakdowns and accidents will be extremely rare.

with the cameras, lasers, and radar data from the autonomous car, it would be pretty easy to see what actually happened... unless you’re suggesting the autonomous car is programmed to manufacture corroborating false data for all of its sensors in the event that it detects an accident..

no i don’t have scientifically rigorous data.. but I have used uber in many cities hundreds of times, and not once has the driver come from a distance as great as the distance i was travelling. They are almost always less than a mile away.
