No one is saying (I think?) that just because nepotism was involved you don’t deserve to be able to act.”

You’re half right. It isn’t to create generational talent, but it is to get access to the the network of contacts.

For reasons I can’t explain, rappers haven’t aged as well as rock stars, jazz musicians or blues, pop, or country artists.

Yeah, they might get a break or two that someone else wouldn't get, but if they stink, they won't get jobs.

Where nepo babies are concerned, in front facing entertainment there’s at least a filter...if you’re a shitty actor or singer, no matter how A+ list your parent is, you’re going to get sidelined.

He was one of the greatest rappers of 2002. Unfortunately for him, it is now 2024, and he’s clearly feeling his own age and irrelevance.

He used to be great but sorry this video sucked ass bro don’t know what to tell you.

Furiosa is great: Another deeply enjoyable expression of director George Miller’s central cinematic thesis that sometimes you just need to make a movie about fucked-up people in fucked-up cars doing awesome, fucked-up shit. We don’t understand the people who refuse to go see it

What does that have to do with 2024 Eminem, who people have made fun of for the last 15 years? Are we rewriting history and pretending that “Monster” was good or what

he still holds a lot of cachet with creaky edgelords who conflate speed with skill when it comes to rap

Eminem has been shit for way longer than he has been great. He had a stellar run of albums in the late 90s and early 2000s. And now he continues to dump on his legacy with every new release. This has nothing to do with his politics, it’s just obvious that he’s tired and has nothing to say anymore.

Yes, the “It wasn’t racist... she was probably coked up” argument feels like it’s taking a few stretches that even Reed Richards might have a hard time making.

Of course it can, if you notice that you’re the only one being made to move quickly and not being allowed to stop for photos.

Good point, because Black people are treated so well around the rest of the world.

Yay. This. Some commentators are saying, literally, that what Kelly Rowland says was happening (other attendees, all white, weren’t getting physically herded) was not what was happening and, you know who was there? Kelly Rowland.

Did you ever see “The Little Foxes”? The depth of a character’s odiousness is demonstrated perfectly when he steps on the train of his mother’s dress, glances down at his foot then at her face, then blithely goes on with what he’s doing. It’s shocking, and you instantly know he’s AWFUL - I think of that moment

I think it’s a joke, yes.

Yup. I get to read medical studies of all stripes almost once a week for work, and nothing bugs me more than people who magically expect that same amount of rigor from a pop culture moment.

If you watch the video, the usher was really up on Rowland to the point where she stepped on the train of her dress (which may be borrowed) and not letting her stop at all. If someone was stepping on my dress, touching me and rushing me, I would also be upset.

That’s right... Frank Stallone?
