“But, again, a lot of people have gotten swept up in ‘cancellation’, and I worry about that; it’s unsustainable, in a way,” Ringwald asserts. “Some people have been unfairly canceled and they don’t belong in the same category as somebody like Harvey Weinstein.”

Updating.  Revising.  Altering.  Rethinking.  Editing.  Changing.  Omitting.

Dr. Seuss too.

Separating “gawker sites can’t stop writing about it” from “public outcry” is a good step towards savvier media literacy.

“Self-censoring”? I’m pretty sure the term for that is “editing,” but you dummies wouldn’t be familiar with that process now, would ya?

Everyone knows her earthly remained are interred in Pelican shotgun case, mummified in Tennessee Mojo BBQ rub wrapped in the finest Mossy Oak-printed linens, on a pedestal between the Abu Garcia baitcaster rods and the Hornady LEVERevolution ammo display stand:

“I have an interest in the media’s ability to transform villains into heroes via selective reporting.”

Nah man. Don't bring kids into your weird jokes. The original comment by grandma was weird enough.

...psst, honey, do you REALLY want to know what the F stands for?”

“Garlin? It’s Abraham. That vagina material you gave me? It did not go down well.”

Yeah, it’s weird that this is 100% the best apology we’re going to ever see from any of these mummies, and still but-joke-tho “nothing more” is smuggled in there. Even then, somehow I doubt he was being told to “stay away” from the actresses purely because of offensive joking, unless perhaps the jokes included

Absolutely. The problem is the person creating the conflict, the ones avoiding confrontation.

He had multiple warnings so.... they clearly tried that and it didn’t work.

No coincidence that 90% of the people who say “Can’t people take a joke anymore?” are old, straight, cis White Men.

He was reported. He was warned. He was told to stay away from the women working on the show, which clearly suggests it was pretty damn serious. Then he did it again.

And to be fair, you shouldn’t have to be forced into confrontation about such things in the workplace.

Context matters. One person may think a racist or sexist comment is a joke, another might see it differently. You wonder why people can’t be forgiven for telling a racy joke, I wonder why people have to do that at all in a professional environment, any professional environment, with people they don’t know.

So you didn’t read the article where it explicitly states he was warned first. Cool insight

Can’t someone be offended by a joke and just tell the joke teller it was a shitty joke, instead of trying to get the joke teller fired?

While I’m glad he wasn’t going around playing grab-ass, I really hate this “oh, it was just a joke” bullshit. Can’t anyone tell a JOKE anymore? sure you can. if it’s funny and not at someone else’s expense.
