Just use a plain rain cover/plastic bag for the saddle plus one of those backpacks with a net or a similar thing specificly for helmets. Those backpacks are also designed to be really convenient for a biker.
It's bad enough that I have to leave my bike outside, I don't want to add my rather expensive helmet to it.
