The problem in the Middle East is that Western governments did a lot of damage to any idea of a secular nation-state: Supporting coups against them, supporting dictatorships, being allies with nations with horrible human rights records (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc), helping dictators to fights wars against other nations

Except that “Delenda est Carthago” actually does defeat the Carthaginians. “Delenda est Raqqa” doesn’t accomplish shit against ISIS. It just destroys a city.

Inhabitable. *

Errr...no. No nukes. Contain, wait for them to burn out.

Which Republican district are you running for office in?

No point, the whole concept behind groups like ISIS is that they are spread and splintered.

That kind of thinking is what created ISIS.

There are serious problems:

Geneva Convention prevents us from leveling the place.

You can’t give hugs with nuclear arms!

I wouldn’t mind nuking the assholes, but the land that they’re on isn’t theirs. They stole it from the people who were living there peaceably. We don’t have any right to destroy it and contaminate it. Unfortunately, when you’re on higher moral ground than your foe, you’ve gotta work three times harder to beat them.

You and idiotic suggestions like that are why they’re able to recruit people. Just stop.

I think Marvel truly is embracing the change. They’re tracking real life, in some respects, and doing it quickly enough to entice an entirely different generation who wants to see the new product.

They can always have two heroes using the same name. I mean, they already did it with Hawkeye with both Kate Bishop and Clint Barton sharing the sobriquet.

There’s still Old Man Logan. I think they’re making it work. Really, as long as they’re good stories with strong writing, it doesn’t matter.

must’ve sucked having to hold a pose for two weeks. I can see why she quit

The reason why they do this is because of name recognition. Whether it be a team or a popular character. X-23 had her own book a few years ago, but it didn’t last. Not for lack of quality, but because her name doesn’t carry the star power that Wolverine does. It’s all marketing, people.

I love how they handled Spiderman, that’s true, but a part of me honestly wishes Marvel would just let Peter go. I get it, he’s such a powerful aspect to Spiderman, but I could do with him retiring and taking on a new role or identity and letting Miles carry the torch, personally.
