No, you remember it well: Smallville never got as bad as Teen Wolf. At the end of the day, Smallville knew what is was, while Teen Wolf doesn't know if it wants to be a serialized show or an episodic one and doesn't have any proper structure to exploit.

Well, it's not like Teen Wolf was ever quality television, itself… so I don't see how the writing being better on Smallville is so hard to fathom. Also, while Smallville hit various lows during seasons 3, 6, 7 and 10, its writing (especially in the first seasons) was strong.
