Brad Pitt pulled it off because it was the biggest film role he’d gotten after years of TV bit spots and D-list low-budget movies.

It’s such a shame his show is off the air.  It was such a bright spot in a relatively bleak late night landscape.

The “luck” is in that it made it easier for me to learn about and understand the ways in which society oppresses women. Before I met her, I had never spent substantial time with any women who didn’t wear at least some makeup as a matter of course.

To all the men who don’t want supporting roles in female - led films: may I present, Brad Pitt, in ‘Thelma and Louse.’ :) Maybe only the really hot ones are confident enough to pull it off. ;)

Seth seems like a good guy. I always enjoyed his stuff on SNL. Its a tough gig I guess. Funny, edgy but not insulting. Trying to keep it interesting when you are interviewing a celebrity who is not interesting. 

I know Seth Myers is the overlooked middle child of late night hosts but I like him too. He and Colbert are each able to strike a similar chord of being funny but also kind—not an easy feat, apparently.

What if she decided to start wearing makeup, tho? For confidence or just to switch things up? Would that change your feelings and opinions of her or your sense of how “lucky” you are?

As much of a punchline as she is these days, mad props to Madonna for going through ALL that shit from a comparatively young age, and at a time when women were even less supported/protected. There is no shortage of footage showing her owning stupid, misogynistic interviewers. I guess that’s why being branded a “bitch”…

Women in general, when dressed up, are expected to wear form-fitting, skin-revealing clothing (with no pockets!). Not to sound like a college freshman but it’s all part and parcel of the patriarchy: the oppression of women by saddling them with the expectation that they have to wear inconvenient, uncomfortable…

He’s always been a prick toward his women guests. I remember him interviewing Vanna White and just doggedly, over and over again, trying to make her sound stupid, trying to make her look like a dumb blonde. I remember admiring how she refused to rise to the bait.

Never found him funny, though I understand comedy is a form of art - and all art is subjective. Still going on Letterman was safer than going on Howard Stern and waiting for him to say, “Take your top off!”

The culture in general getting kinder and more aware is great. Listening to that Letterman interview, it seems hard to imagine that interview taking place today (even if it was only 7 years ago). It’s fantastic to see more empathy and kindness for people’s struggles, especially in such a short timeframe.

Letterman wasn’t a safe space for any young woman. You can find dismissive and cringe inducing moments in all his interviews of young beautiful women. Some used it to their advantage like Madonna.
