(theatre school nerd here) Into The Woods is actually a longer stage show than Wicked. Yet that was one film.

What about this is girl power? The inclusion of girls?? Also, what is wrong with girl power?
I spend a lot of time evaluating new documentaries for festival consideration, and the trickiest call to make is always whether an interesting or important subject is enough to recommend a film when the actual filmmaking is subpar or biased.
Thats the thing about the Coachella demographic, You’ve got to remember that these are just simple influencers. These are people of Social Media . The common clay of the new Internet ... You know... morons.
The thing is, there is a clear hunger among TV viewers for a traditional 22-26 episode season every year. The prestige model of a dozen or fewer episodes in what amounts to a kind of longform movie was always an alternative to the old model, not a replacement. This approach yields a lot of filler, of course, but it…
i mean thats good. five seasons is a good run especially when youre a streaming only show. as much as i dont care for Discovery setting the 5 season limit is a good idea. you can tell all you really need to tell in 5 season. TNG started petering out in season 6 and you can tell by season 7 they were just making…
You’d think a sizable amount of people would have at least seen Little Miss Sunshine.
I think most people can figure out why one might hold the UN member, proud democracy and recipient of billions of dollars in US aid to a different standard than an anti-democratic terror group that rejects all rules of decency and humanity and gets no military or diplomatic support from the international community,…
Back in the day the comments were as good as the writing in terms of exploring pop culture. Nowadays the comments are BETTER than the writing.
I remember when there were DS9 rewatch recaps on this site that got hundreds of comments, including, for every episode, multiple comments in character. There was a rap by Jake Sisko that was lyrically dexterous, and contained many deep-cut Star Trek references, there was the hilarious reminisces of a drunken, horn-dog…
Welp, I’m holding on for dear life, waiting for the MAGA crowd to come screaming into the comments...
I don’t think Aliens has fallen in esteem at all. It’s still the most popular film in the IP. However, if you’re trying to make a horror film, Alien is a better foundation because it was actually a horror film while Aliens was more of an action film.
“In space, no one can hear you say ‘no,’”
I’ll take The Motion Picture over The Final Frontier every day of the week.
Huge respect to Roddenberry for kicking off Star Trek. But TNG didn’t get really good until they kicked Roddenberry to the curb, so I don’t see his “vision” as necessarily being all that great. And, by all accounts, he didn’t like Wrath of Khan, so his tastes are questionable.
“The X-Men have gone woke!!!” might be the only thing that can beat claims that “Star Trek has gone woke!!!” in terms of sheer insanity.
it’s 2024 i’m reading an av club newswire about joel mchale and chevy chase fighting on the set of community
I feel like once he’s dead I’m gonna keep going.
As long as he breathes, I will never turn down a chance to mock Trump.
People could just as easily turn this critique back on you and say “I want to explore a broader moral universe than total evil vs total good, and I’m not interested in more reductive and predictable stories that hew to that tradition. Clamor for more Saturday morning cartoons if that’s where your taste for morality…
