    Things that I like:

What power plant does it use?

    Makes sense. Thanks :)

I don’t know if I agree. The Boxster and Cayman are on their own platform. The base model can be quite fun and is pretty damn fast. The Porsches don’t share a platform with better performing cars for significantly less money ($37-42.5k), either.

So...what’s the point of this car then? Is it for people who want a certain appearance package with basically A3 performance? I mean, it does look really sharp.

A fair point. You’re probably right in that there is likely a market for it somewhere (e.g. scissor doors on Honda Civics). It would be an interesting experiment to see if it sold. My guess is that it would be a neat party trick to sell a some extrs cars at launch...but once it became ubiquitous, I think that it would

I hate to play devil’s advocate here, but I completely disagree with your assertion (and that of the article). There literally is a reasonable counter-argument to this position. In fact, there are several reasonable counter-arguments.

Maybe if I had a terrible, boring, suck-to-drive hooptie that I absolutely hated and a friend was in town. I’d just feel bad lending them the Oldsmobuick and insist that they take the fun car.

    Obligatory Naked Gun reference:

I don’t know how I missed this article from last January, and I don’t know whether or not you’ll read notifications from this far back, but I’ve been saying this for years.

4k? You must mean with your video card that cost around $700 ;)

    You sound pretty bitter. Why?

The ‘89 turbo was the only 930 to come from the factory with a 5-speed. I believe that the 993’s and 964’s were 6-speeds.

My understand is that IMS bearing issue does not go away after surviving for a certain number of miles. However, there are retrofit fixes to prevent a problem. The parts cost is around $1000, and the fix it easy (but involves dropping the transmission).

Porsche was not part of the VW group at the time.

Sold for $18,750. A decent runner with questionable miles.

    Yes.

This has been up on ebay for years. It’s been discussed at length on the Pelican Porsche Forums and the consensus has always been that this guy is dreaming.

Oh yeah...that’s a conversion alright (and not a very good one). This is a ‘77 911, and the factory didn’t offer a Flachbau option until the ‘81...and only on the turbos. This example has the original 5-blade engine fan, which suggests that much of the bad emissions stuff from the 70’s that made those middle-years
