You're right...and they're not especially fast cars (off the shelf). You called it right that the 914-6 really only made around 110 HP. Remember, though, that they weighed in at around 2000-2100 Lb. Pretty close to Elise weight (and even with 116 HP, the 2.0L flat 6 is still torquier than any Miata). In the late

LOL. Probably not the best car for very tall people :)

There's a 914 with a STi motor in my area that terrorizes my local track - as you suggest, it was pretty fast.

    Now playing

The mere RS wasn't good enough for you - you had to RSR. Fair enough.

I've spent some time behind the wheel of an S2000 as well. They're fantastic cars to drive, and very fun, but also different from a Miata, IMO - and in many ways.

It's interesting all of the exoticars and one-off race cars that occupy the majority of the slots. We don't need to drive those before we die, and most of probably never will.

    Touché, sir.

    I reject your QOTD parameters:

I'm not sure that I agree with your reasoning. This is the strength of the wing in this test is beyond its design parameters. The safety factor is already engineered into the design parameters (e.g. 100%).

If this came to the US and was available in a stick, I'd buy one in half a heartbeat - especially with the I5 replacing the S3's 4-banger. It couldn't be any more properly old-school Audi. Instead, the closest that I'll get is the Golf-R manual, which is what I will have to settle for as a trade-down replacement for

Yep - pretty much what Race911 said. Even on the otherwise bullet-proof 3.2's, these are a weak spot, but not much of one. On mine at nearly 190k miles, it puffs some oil, but compression is otherwise good. I just add oil every thousand miles or so.

I'm not surprised at all. I'll dig through the other column to see if I can find your post.

The oh-so-tasteful PRS Corvette 427 and Z06 guitars:

Totally! Buy mine! It only burns a little bit of oil!

I posted a suggestion yesterday...but I'll just say it again and with more pictures - because everyone likes pictures. (I'm leaving out my Ferrari 308/328 suggestion from the link...but feel free to read it).

YES! I would love to read a series about owning an older Ferrari vs a newer one.

    :)

Are you sure that the Porsche 911 was the only way to put big power down on loose surfaces?

Your statement only applies to people who purchase cars based on some sort of price/performance ratio. Surely, there are people with a brain who have a different set of values or basis for their a car purchase, no?

Thanks for writing, hopefully making some sort of difference.
