Wasn’t expecting that...NICE!

The kids LOVE to sit way up high. Whole new perspective on the world for them.

That “bespoke coach” isn’t a minivan...it’s a modern party bus. I like it, but it’s not part of this discussion. My point is the same as Doug’s...luxury SUVs are crushing the luxury sedan market. Frankly, all it takes is a look back to the 1920s/30s...a Duesenberg is more similar to a modern truck than a modern sedan

And there are minivans for you. But we were talking about luxury turning to truck-based SUVs. And that IS happening. You will never ever see a billionaire get into a luxury minivan. Not going to happen. That vehicle is simply too plebian for it to be seen as their chariot.

If you give it time, you get used to it. It works for what it is. It’s not a vehicle where you expect it to have steering feel, or the ability to “handle”. It’s made for cruising and taking all kinds of shit along with you wherever you might go. Basically a mini-RV.

Agreed. And the G-wagen is the worst of them all. My GMT900 Suburban is perfection on road trips. It just glides along effortlessly.

Hmm...I suppose I did overlook those. But honestly, I don’t think they make as much sense. Those are sports car manufacturers. Rolls and Bentley make luxury barges, and a large SUV is a logical evolution of that typology. I don’t think the others need SUVs, but I’m sure the bean counters will say otherwise...

Unless you consider 6’2” short, I’d say I disagree with you. Plus, the seating position of an SUV is so much taller than a sedan, it’s not even a comparison. If you ride in a Suburban, you can see what’s happening in seats of people in sports cars nearby...if you catch my drift.

I never said I don’t have a soft spot for sports cars. I completely agree with you. I’m just saying I agree with Doug that the luxury sedan is dying (for now) because luxury SUVs have truly figured it out.

I can see the appeal of a truck...but when you have something as big as a Suburban, it gets it done. And having a warm dry place to keep your shit when you’re out and about (especially camping) is a huge benefit.

Once you ride in a tall, luxurious, quiet, smooth, luxo-SUV, you immediately see why the sedan is dead. It’s the same reason CEOs frequently have custom desks and chairs that allow them to sit higher than the plebes on the other side of the desk. I used to hate Suburbans, then I bought one for my wife...and I LOVE it.

Lotus Esuva.

$4400, sure. Add a zero and get a CP.

I have this quote pinned on my wall:

Fair enough. But I think most people would agree that this “grille” has been “designed” with about as much respect for the car’s lines as your average Pep Boys “Buick Speed Hole”. I guess I’m being judgy and rude, but I really love the Tesla, and this is not an improvement.

I understand everything you’re saying, I guess I’m just bummed about it. I was hoping this was a single-car effort, that might have showcased what could feasibly be done in normal circumstances. But the Suburban chase vehicle was a huge buzzkill.

You are absolutely right.

Whadyusaybro?!

The grille sucks and I want someone to do it WITHOUT the lead Suburban. What is the point of an EV challenge with a 15 mpg Suburban running a screen in front? Also, this whole record will get smashed when Tesla rolls out the battery replacement stations.

WTF is this.
