You’re right that it started as the gentleman’s Mustang and later generations were paired with the T-Bird and marketed as personal luxury vehicles. There really isn’t a modern equivalent vehicle class as coupes from true luxury brands are certainly a class above.

How were those even ever supposed to be used. There’s an obvious tie-down bar in the rear (although I question it’s ability to actually hold anything) - but how are you supposed to secure the luggage at the front?

My ‘95 Cougar had the optional luggage rack. I never even considered using it, but I think it made the car look CLASSY.
