I drive a ‘16 GTI and I don’t have to explain my purchase to anyone. Everyone seems to know basically what it is and respects it as a solid choice in a commuter car, especially once they see it up close. You’d swear it was an Audi as many compliments as I get on it.

The 6 and the 9 were probably the best iterations. They’re all pretty childish though. If you’re over 19 and own an Evo it’s one of those cars that you’re socially required to constantly apologize for/explain to people. Most of them are 500+hp of rolling uncomfortable shame at this point.

I’d say yes. The added creature comforts of the X seemed to take away from the experience, after driving a IX. The DCT was quicker, but no where near as fun, and fun is what a car like this is supposed to be about.

I’ve looked hard at a couple of these opportunities, the money is good, no question. In my situation it’s just not going to work (family etc). I have two friends that are flying busses over there now and a few that are over flying in the sandbox (UAE, Dubai etc)
