If you feel like you need to ask for your old parts back, you should be finding a better mechanic.
My ‘82 was nearly trouble-free for almost 200k miles before I sold it. I had to replace the warmup regulator a couple of times, one injector leaked, and the fuel lines got brittle and had to go.
They have no idea where that part came from, and they cannot go back to their supplier and get a replacement. I am surprised that any shop would allow anyone to bring his own parts!
Part of their profit is making money from parts. It’s hardly a new concept.
