VW salesman said the same thing to me a couple years ago when I looked at a Jetta TDI for my wife. He said you really have to drive >/= 20k miles a year to make it worthwhile. I'm thinking, why would you talk me out of spending more money? I guess maybe

I seriously considered a TDI this summer, but, the local dealer pissed me off when he saw fit to tell me what I needed based only on what I was driving. Had I bought one, I’d refuse to take it in for the fix until I knew what they were doing and how it was going to impact the car.

The days of bouncing off the speed limiter are long since gone. Not that it was ever dangerous, but the data monitoring systems are such that a crew will be picked up for flying at 0.81 instead of 0.76 for example.

The 757 uses one of the Skydrol fluids for the brakes. I’m not an engineer, and it’s been some years since I’ve flown it (777 is my current type), but it was generally considered very unpleasant stuff. There are many variants (Skydrol is a brand - not an actual type of fluid and there are quite a few products used by

A solid answer from your companion. Engines are leased by airlines which confuses people but it’s pretty simple. Imagine you lease your Mustang from a dealer but it doesn’t come with an engine. Then imagine you pick an engine from a Mustang-authorised dealer and lease that - the kinder you are to it, the dealer says,

I’ve got about 8000 hours on 757s. If you’re down to the point of having to use the alternate gear extension and flap extension (both electric), something has gone horribly wrong with the hydraulics.

Umm, try your math again. :(

Okay, I’ll take your word on that. That’s not how your post came across. Maybe I’ve just encountered too many idiots in my life who would post something like in a sincere way.

But that’s ... not even possible. Like, it’s chemically unpossible. Sucrose contains carbon by definition. What. {head explodes}

I went out on a date once with a calculus professor, and asked him if he thought your standard college student should be required to take calculus, and his response was a ringing NO! His opinion was that unless you were going into orbital mechanics or some such math intensive field you should stay the fuck away from

the writer of the note probably doesn’t fully understand the difference and significance between NOx and CO2 emissions

Technically less everything minus Nox

I like the vague “pollution” since the VW certainly makes less CO2 than the Suburban.

I work at a place that specializes in food allergies, so I’m in favor of keeping the stories. They are my life. Things people have told me they’re allergic to: red (yes, seriously), nuts (but only whole ones, not crushed), sodium, calcium, iron, non-filtered water, all sugars, all thickeners (everything from corn

FatBurger calls it “the hypocrite”

She proceeds to explain to him that only a hamburger contains meat, and that a cheeseburger is vegetarian. She says she knows this because she has been to McDonald’s in London literally *hundreds* of times in the last few years, and that a cheeseburger is always vegetarian when she orders one!

I worked in the mountains for a while. A number of our summer season customers asked if the patches of white stuff on the higher parts of the mountains was sand.
