I've seen several of the anime versions—along with many hundreds of other anime over the last several decades—and just saw the movie.

Kathy Griffin is blowing smoke. She's leaving the show because she doesn't have any fashion sense. Her jokes were like Joan Rivers' jokes—scabrous and vulgar. The difference was that Joan did have fashion sense.
