Bubba, when I took my oath of allegiance, I didn’t have to offer fealty to the President. But I did have to affirm this:
I live literally thirty seconds away from a GM plant. In 2015, GM spent $877 million on a new body plant for the factory. It won’t be done until next year. Even expanding existing facilities is a costly and time consuming development, and they aren’t even adding any new vehicles to the production list.
It is not as though car companies have empty factory space lying around. Short term production increases involves adding shifts and that may not be possible if there are shortage of workers, parts, and increased wear on machinery which increases downtime when they break.
