Will do, enjoy looking like a dork.

I absolutely do. But why do those people filling the streets of DC need to wear a silly looking uniform?

I would criticize fedoras, because they’re stupid and everyone looks terrible in a fedora.

Please keep repeating the term ‘respectability politics’, because that’s not boring at all. Maybe do it while wearing a onesie and sipping from a baby bottle because that’s what grown adults do when they want people to listen to them.

What they are evocative of is hats made for infants. Sorry you can’t see that.

Right, I mean there’s nothing wrong with knitting. My issue is with these specific hats because I think it will do more to have the movement made fun of than it will have it listened to and taken seriously.

LOL, yes, I definitely want the republic of gilead simply because I think people are taken more seriously when they don’t dress like children.

You’re right, it’s not a problem with women’s clothes. It’s a problem with grown women wearing baby clothes.

“Donald Trump, we are rock star ladies who rock and you should listen to us! Look how awesome our kitty cat hats are! That means our message is super important! Meow!”

Was definitely not a “cherry-picked” edit. Google “animal ear hat” and feast upon the multitudes of pictures of babies in hats just like that one.

I mean, yeah. It has ears on it, so it kinda does look like baby clothes.

I think you should examine how to effectively convey serious political messages so that people actually listen and not just get a good chuckle out of your silly hat and miss the message entirely.

Maybe a stronger visual impact would be hats with vaginas on them rather than kitten ears. A more direct reference to Trump’s comment.

How many grown adults do you know who wear animal ear hats on a regular basis, aside from this silly “movement”?

You’re pretending that there are only two options: stodgy or absurd. Do you not think there’s something in between that doesn’t involve making grown women look like babies?

Nothing wrong with knitting, and I never claimed that there was. I’m a knitter myself. But people are literally knitting themselves adult-sized baby clothes and pretending it’s going to convince Donald Trump that women should be respected. Come on.

I mean, feel free to wear baby clothes if you like, but don’t be surprised when people don’t take your message seriously.

Except that these hats literally look like ones made for babies. Animal ears and all.

Something about this seems… infantilizing. Can we not show solidarity without resorting to wearing silly looking hats in a gender-stereotyped color? If we want to be taken seriously, I think the worst way to go about it is to make ourselves look ridiculous.

I think that’s a totally understandable question to have—and I wish I knew how to answer it! I don’t think you should feel obligated to identify as white as some sort of default option, especially since you don’t actually know your background and suspect that you might be of mixed heritage. I think you have to rely on
