Not...exactly. The flavor profile is definitely more to the hoppy than a pale ale. It’s tricky because you need to balance the bitterness against the fact that there’s less body to support it. It does have its own category at the Great American Beer Festival, for what it’s worth.

It’s because hop prices are creeping up again, and also people are discovering that there’s more to IPA than “how many hops can we dump in the kettle?” I design hoppy IPAs, but I make sure the flavors work together and there’s a beer to back up the bitterness.

I’m totally going to brew Antidisestablishmentarianism IPA at my next brewery. Probably the double IPA.
