Reality TV is cheap to produce and most folks care more about vapid drama over educational documentaries these days. Anti-intellectualism is a very American thing.

I used to watch the Travel channel all-the-time. It was my HGTV. I could turn it on and always find something fascinating. Ditto for old TLC.

Agreed. I used to watch Discovery, TLC, and the History channel all the time. Now, I wouldn’t be caught dead watching any of their programming. Complete and utter crap.
