I wasn’t suggesting any of this was a good idea, simply that I don’t see how it qualifies as a grift. To me a grift would be to take someone’s money to rent the RV, then move it or deny them access in some other way. If the vanlord is providing what they said they would provided, however unsafe/unehtical, etc it might

Of all the things to worry about, this should be pretty low on the priority list. Maybe the government just wants its cut of the rent or to regulate the market to prevent gouging or other unethical activity, but it comes off as an anti-homeless initiative.

It’s only considered a “grift” because LA county is not getting their 50% tax on the rent paid. When I moved out there, I considered getting a RV for short term living and the daily rent on legal places to park it exceeded mid-level hotel rooms.

The whole grift is largely unregulated, which is why officials want to get a handle on things.”

And that family is lucky the kid managed to pop out before the door closed all the way with nothing but his neck to provide resistance. They have much more of a sense of humor about it than I would.

Ok, show of hands. How many of us have slammed a finger in a normal car door by accident?

I’ll never understand this “Elon Musk can do...” type of argument. Because Elon Musk probably cannot do whatever feat of ingenuity or technical prowess ends that statement.

This is why I automatically dismiss comments defending Tesla. Same reason I dismiss comments about Scientology. The crazies be crazy.

Would be harder to do if Isreal hadn’t immediately responded by committing a war crime on territory that they effectively control. Thus causing massive risk of life to innocent civilians through an increased lack of food, water, and utilities.

Condemning Israel for committing war crimes is antisemitic? What do you call the countless Jews who have called out Bibi, Likud, and the “settlers” for a decades-long campaign of ethnic cleansing and provocation?

2006 was 17 years ago. The average age in Gaza is 18 years old. Most of the people the IDF is trying to genocide into oblivion did not choose Hamas because they weren’t old enough to vote.

Of course Hamas is nowhere to be seen. They are a terrorist organization and currently (and pretty much since thier founding have been) fighting Isreal. It’s not like AL Quaida was going to show up anounce who they were and help hand out aid when the US gave it out.

That is a total mischaracterization of what she did.  She condemned killing of innocents by anyone.  How on earth is that a controversial take?

Imagine reading the Scarlet Letter and thinking the takeaway is “we must never criticize powerful women”.

“I’m wearing the scarlet letter after the week that I just had, last week, being a woman up here and being demonized for my vote and for my voice.”

Self Aggrandizing Asshole comes to mind.

When I was in fourth grade, my mom and I moved a few hours away to live with my grandma. I was an only child and painfully shy; all my friends had been my friends since forever, and I had no idea how to talk to these new kids at school.
