People install small Android devices that override idrive while driving in order to get the Waze app. Still have idrive when you need it, and actual navigation the rest of the time.

Yeah, as a “so called” car enthusiast, this infuriates me to no end. I can recognize basically anything from the shape of it’s day time running lights from half a mile, but I have to check the fucking badges on every MB saloon. Used to happen to me with Audis around ‘06, they are slightly more distinguishable now

I stand corrected, didn’t remember the early models having that smaller wing but google certainly agrees with you.

my Czech polo

Actually, its just a 3 door euro-civic hatch. The type R has a much larger wing iirc, but these are still awesome looking.

“Down on the street” were pretty great, I miss those.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of me reading Jalopnik. I started following Jalopnik after reading Mike Spinelli’s article about formula sae for pop science in August 2007. Much has changed since then, I think the entire staff is new, but the spirit of Jalopnik really hasn’t changed. Props guys, looking forward

There absolutely will be free rides. The combination of driverless tech becoming mainstream (and cheap) and electric cars becoming cheap will lead to taxi services that might have operational costs less than a penny per mile (Disclosure: have not done the math to prove this, prove me wrong though). At that point

You, sir, are a true Jalop! Enjoy it, and keep it in good condition for the next Jalop down the line ;)

Early 2000's Lexus es tail lights match up very well including turn signals

After Mazda unveiled it’s concepts every other automaker in Tokyo should have folded their booth and left. Next to their beautiful simplicity it just all looks awful.

First Gear: Never underestimate VWs ability to shoot itself in the foot. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face...

That’s chump change for Google, didn’t they just talk about dropping a billion dollar investment into Lyft? They will see pretty good ROI on the self driving tech for sure.

No distopic future is complete without Singer restored Cayennes. Truly the stuff of nightmares.

Someone will eventually start making vehicles with wights in the front peddling backwards towards the humans. Everyone will (correctly) tell him its wrong, but he will persist on improving on the flawed design for decades, eventually leading to inflated valuations of classic ice cooled wight-wagons coveted by purists

I know the interior is mostly Porsche parts bin, but IMO it puts the new RR phantom’s interior to shame!

That would actually be really neat, would love to see it done.

The car itself has been profitable for years and at a fairly high margin. the company loses money because it spends more on R&D and expansion than it makes selling cars. if you divide the amount of money the company loses by the number of cars they sell then you get the $8k figure. its a similar concept to what amazon

I would take a Porsche platform over a RR one any day

Why would Travis specifically tell levandowski not to bring any documents unless he knew he was taking documents?
