Makes sense. This is why the second and third Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films weren’t as engrossing as the first: the primary characters don’t interact much in the later films.

Sony did something similar to George Michael when he wanted out of his contract with them. Prince went through something similar with Warner. They are not going to let someone out of a contract unless it benefits them to do so.

I have the opposite problem. The writers who most inspire me are Joan Didion, Susan Sontag, Patti Smith, Annie Dillard, and Marilynne Robinson. I guess Douglas Coupland, Wendell Berry, and John Berger are men, so I can think of some male writers who inspire me.

Santa Barbara has eight theaters with approximately 25 screens, all owned by Metropolitan Theaters. Metropolitan shows a wide variety of films, from indies to blockbusters, and I’m generally happy with them though they could update their facilities more often. Still, aside from the drive-in, they have a local monopoly.

We reserve our Nespresso for life-and-death situations, by which I mean mornings on which I hadn’t already set up one of our other coffeemakers for quick brewing. I don’t love the taste of the pod coffee, but it serves its medicinal purpose.
