Well as you said this is a conundrum, because I can't think of any type of punishment or retribution would be fair or appropriate in this situation. I certainly wouldn't want to see her labeled as a criminal or serve any time.

I don't want to make her a criminal, and honestly I don't know what appropriate "punishment" would be - she's surely going to suffer over this. It's just fucked up all around.

I guess I can see that, but she still ultimately decided her ass over her boyfriend's life.

Obviously not the brightest, but the dad with the gun and the lying girlfriend still deserve the blame, not the dead kid. But you're certainly right about the Darwinism.

She may not have acted with malice, but she showed an extremely careless attitude about her boyfriend's life when she continued to lie while her dad had a gun in his hands.

Lesson: When you see that your dad is wielding a gun against your boyfriend, it's time 'fess the fuck up.

I agree. And having had a teenage son in this same situation, I was upset when my son got arrested - now I'm just thankful he wasn't shot!
