How is it a dumb rule that shouldn’t be called in this instance? Harper is leaning towards second at that point. The pitcher by rule has to go home, so the only reason he gets the pick off is because he waits longer than legally allowed to throw to first, thereby catching the runner by surprise and getting an out.

Short of maybe what is and what isn’t a catch is in the NFL... is there any rule more convoluted, in all professional sports, than the balk? I watch baseball all the time, and have for the last 20+ years, and still don’t get it...
