As one would hopefully expect considering the original creator of the series is a woman as well. A very talented woman at that who has been killing it with Silver Spoon and her take on The Heroic Legend of Arslan. :D

Also the best part is they’re actually portrayed as women. So often a strong female character could be gender swapped and almost nothing would change, that wasn’t the case in FMA everyone had issues a man wouldn’t have faced.
People don’t react well to being morally judged for their hobbies. I think what really sets off these antagonistic feuds so often is the way the ‘feminist’ side approaches it. It’s never really a discussion, someone has come in to the hobby with a /cause/ and has declared it wrong. I rarely see, ‘Is x and x wrong? Is…
Nah, the guy with the gun pointed to his chin was the wrong guy Faye was chasing in “Heavy Metal Queen”. Faye was after a guy with a dragon tattoo and when she tore into this guy’s clothes, it turned out to be a cheeky eel tattoo :D
Okay. Let’s discuss.
Maybe it’s not ideal, but there’s a version of a conclusion to this that accepts that anime doesn’t owe anything to anyone.
See the problem here is people will take this stuff too far. Start attacking the creators, demanding it to stop existing just because they dont like it, creating outrage, etc.
essentially this. It becomes a case of “you can make what you want, but if you make it a way we do not like we will constantly shame you until it’s changed.”
I keep wanting to tell these people that it’s ok to enjoy things that are problematic
I think Lust just had the low-cut dress, which, for her character since she’s the actual embodiment of the vice, makes sense. And even though that’s who she was, I don’t think she was actually objectified. She was always, from start to finish, a formidable opponent, and I think, third in charge after Wrath and Pride.…
Anita and her ilk have directly led to video games not being released in the United States, and to games removing content to cater to them. So when someone comes out and says they just want to share their “opinion” regarding feminist intersectionality, it’s like someone from the KKK just sharing their “opinion” about…
I think because people hear this argument often, and it tends to be a Motte and Bailey. This and this is wrong/sexist/problematic, but we aren’t actually *saying* ban it!
Isn’t that just the nature of the beast? To break it down this is a discussion about the perceived problems with anime, using (in this case) a feminist lens. The goal of these discussions is typically to fix those problems. If you don’t agree with fanservice being a problem than people trying to remove, change or…
I think it has a lot to do with her writing for Mary Sue. That site has some... pretty extreme views.
Good call. She really is great, FMA has a lot of really strong female characters.
Dude, FMA is moot in general, because if you want to complain about any female being used as fen service then you also have to put the hammer down on Armstrong and his manly body being used as fan service.
I have a dream, that one day, people on the Internet can disagree about things without resorting to murder threats and suicide requests.
Faye is on my Mount Rushmore of anime characters, partially because she never loses her agency. She does whatever she wants and his beholden to nobody. She’s allowed to have her flaws (chronic gambler, habitual liar) without being perceived as weak. She dresses sexy because she uses her sexuality to accomplish her…
Same with FMA (in general but specifically talking about Brotherhood). It has maybe a single moment that could be considered fan service and otherwise has extremely strong, well developed female characters. An engineer, three badass fighters, a slew of side characters, and then yes, a singular character that could be…
Yeah, but pointing out that guys/boys get shit on too doesn’t generate hits to articles.
