Have stupid citizens, get stupid policymakers. I hate stupid.

An EV with ~300 miles of range stuck in traffic now has ~500 miles of range because the EPA rating was assuming 65mph @ ~4mi/kw, and when you’re crawling under 45mph you’re getting like 7mi/kw.

The irony is that the EV being used to evac likely has more charge (if you’re evac’ing from home), than an ICE vehicle has fuel. My cars are constantly hovering around 1/4 tank. EVs are generally plugged in at home. They’ll be just fine.

Lol... Yeah, there have definitely never been hundreds of ICE vehicles left stranded on highways after running out of gas during evacuations.

yup, they definitely have a lot of work on their plate. They do make great cars, they really do. But it is not enough anymore; if the design sucks and if they are too expensive, people will walk away. And I guess 1/3 of CR-V buyers did exactly that in 2022.

those CR-V are rather expensive nowadays, especially since Honda reworked all their trim level to force people into paying more for options they do not want just to have access to a few they actually want.

If they introduce a new, cheaper LX version, is shows that their strategy isn’t working very well. And their sales

You just described 95% of cities with populations over 50K in the US.

At no point does that blurb talk about halogens. It talks about 2 levels of LED. One WITH signature lighting and one without. This means that lower trim levels will now have LEDs instead of halogens, just without the signature lighting. The “opt out” is opting out of the high level LED to the base level LED.  The

Good analysis. I bought a new car recently, and while I’m fairly frugal in general I figured I’d keep it “forever” (it replaced a 15-year-old car) so I went for something relatively nice (an entry level luxury model) and spent more than I ever spent for a car (though not an extravagant amount). I was curious and

Unfortunately EVERYONE is covering it this way, for the “lols”. All the radio morning shows, NPR, Reddit, etc. I legitimately thought they had already built the trains before I even read this story. Glad I read it.

lol as if used car market hasn’t been crazy in the last two+ years. You’re just an old man yelling at the cloud

I honestly think that cars are just expensive, and they’ve been getting more costly with inflation and the general rising cost of living. It’s not just a car thing with gas, food, and other necessities increasing across the board. I’ve been looking for a new daily motorcycle and the prices for bikes hasn’t really

Yeah, it is almost like wage growth has stagnated and the guarantee of a yearly raise and bonus that boomers grew up with dried up after their 40 years in the workforce.

Oh, it’s not by dollar amount, it’s measured by take-home pay. Well the reason is obvious, it’s that Gen Z and Millennials, and to a lesser extend Gen X, get paid absolute garbage compared to Boomers who pulled up the ladder behind them, but still need to buy cars.

Keep in mind many of these Zoomers will have student debt too, so mortgage (maybe), student debt and auto debt - throw in some credit card debt too and it’s a house of cards.

tbh, it might not really be a zoomer thing. if you’re young and making shitty money and the average price of a new car is like $40K, then there you go.

Who is paying almost 20 percent over msrp for their cars? Not anyone I know. I paid 600 over for my Bolt EV to get it while I could get 2500 in rebates and the 7500 tax credit and I’m still a bit mad about it.

We bought our Transit when it was a year old, after it got done being a rental. Great 17K Van used, not so great 25K + new.
