I’m in agreement. “The average residential electricity rate in the U.S. is 16.09 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).” [1] A Nissan Leaf uses about 30 kWh/100 miles [2]. Let’s say charging efficiency is around 85% [3] so it takes about 35.3 kWh to replenish the battery. That means the “fuel” cost for 100 miles would be

Yeah i just filled up our ICE (RX400h) and at 25mpg and $4.70/gal it’s $0.19/mile. Just the ICE number sounds suspiciously low. You’d need to average 30mpg at the US average of $3.40/gallon which isn’t really representative of the ICE fleet (it’s more like 25 mpg)

the EV is running on $0.36/kwh and gets about 333

Plenty of new complexes here in Seattle got a bunch of chargers now, and offer installations of chargers for presold units in new constructions.

Difference is that you can charge at home (if you live in a house or a newer apartment/condo complex) and most days, that’s all you need.

The difference is that right now, a lot of people are charging at home. The chargers by the road aren’t the only way of “filling up” anymore.

They did.  This is a case of Hyundai/Kia UN-figuring it out due to being penny-wise and pound-foolish.

Man, I really feel sorry for some people.

Yup.

As a St. Louisan who lives in the city as opposed to the county (which has a MUCH larger population and less crime) I can speak at length to this. My friend had her Kia Soul stolen about three months ago. It is almost always juveniles committing these crimes (the city will not prosecute these kids and just release

I find it disingenuous when people complain about the weight of EVs, but ignore that the bulk of EVs are lighter than the top 3 best selling vehicles in the USA.

So, there’s a solution, but nobody wants that solution. The solution is, drive less. Start requiring neighborhoods to be built walkable, and on public transit routes. Start requiring new road projects to prioritize public transit. Override the NIMBYs who refuse to allow infill development in their neighborhoods

Not really seeing that. This is what its class looked like in 2013

Neutral: Why would I ever be loyal to something as crass as a brand? I bought a second Subaru after owning a ‘97 Legacy because I liked the WRX. I just sold it and bought something not Subaru because they don’t make anything I want any more. Easy.

Very much a nomad. If anything, I might prefer going to a different manufacturer. I’m sure there are reasons why, but Idk what they are off hand. I just enjoy variety in my cars.

Yeah I don’t understand how a vehicle with higher ground clearance, skid plates and sophisticated AWD wouldn’t be more capable off-road than a FWD econobox.

I would bet my paycheck that if the Pilot TrailSport and the Cavalier are both equipped as they came from the factory, and had drivers of equal offroading experience, that Honda will get significantly further down the trail than the Chevy, especially if it’s a slippery trail.

Oh they do: the Wagoneer.

To add to the energy usage; Hydrogen is at best 1/3 as efficient as a battery with the chemistry available now. And that is provided that you don’t burn fossile gas to produce it (which is the prevalent way to do it as it’s much cheaper). So imagine when they solve mass production of solid state batteries or grafen
