O-Ring Failures…

No, $1 at the hardware store, $10 or so from a dealer. I buy waaay too many parts for too many cars. Yes, waay worse for airplanes but you are paying for the documentation of the part at that point. No such thing for cars other than catalytic converters in certain states.

The threshold for totaling a nearly new car is more like 75% of the value. And for something like this an insurance company may well go higher than that, since it is not a structural issue.

A plastic radiator on a car will be under much higher pressure and much higher temperatures.

It cracked because it got slammed into by road debris. That is a whole lot beefier bit of plastic than what you will find in a typical radiator end tank. It’s going to be just fine for a LOOONG time. Probably longer than if it had never been repaired. 

You are out of your tree if you don’t think the fix was better than the original design.
