Well, even with the low range the Gladiator can’t be sold with a diesel engine here, because for trucks the legislation only allow diesel engine for trucks with 1 metric ton of payload or more. Crazy legislation from the 70's to protect the trucker lobby. 

Yup, on that 9-speed auto just to please the legislation with a 4.70 ratio. Not aggressive as the new Bronco but surprisingly for a FWD based crossover. I drove one and always starts on second gear. The Renault/Dacia Duster 4WD also have a granny first gear on the manual transmission.
