Actually it doesn’t cost any extra money to run winter tires. When using winter tires you are not putting miles on all-seasons. So instead of buying... lets say 4 sets of all-season tires over the years, you’d buy 3 all-season and 1 winter set.

The post woman that delivers in my neighborhood does the same. When she lacks traction she just mashes the gas and you can smell the tire down the street. Last time I helped her get un-stuck she was probably moments from her tire catching fire.

Simple...the chief engineer doesn’t know he vehicle in the same level of detail that the working level engineer does. He should have stayed quite though.
