The ability to use the towers you use to reveal the map requires you to have done the quest that gets you the glider in the first place, as its linked to using the tower in that very first town on the land.

Unless there’s an upgrade to the Fuse “Rune”, that is not how it works at all.  You do not get to keep the base weapon, it breaks as well when you run out of durability for the fused item.

If WoW ever tires for you, I highly recommend Final Fantasy XIV, which has a ton of content and there is always groups for content.  In addition, the free trial goes all the way through the first expansion, and its story is amazing.
