Oh - that's what he said! I was too busy laughing at the cut to him shirtless to pay attention to the explanation. I honestly can't remember a show that had as many belly laughs for me as B-99 does.

Oh god - yes- the dance number! This episode had so many great moments that I forgot that one!

A. Great cold open, Hitchcock (or Sully? I get them confused) with no shirt, Terry throwing back a box of pretzels, lots of irrational holiday hatred - what's not to like?

I am so jealous about that live taping! Which episode?

And if you are just counting comedies, throw in The Carol Burnett Show, The Flip Wilson Show, and Laugh-In.

I just watched a clip of the last 4 minutes of the show and laughed non-stop. Richard Sanders just kills it in this episode.

Marty McKee beat me to it - I was definitely aware of Fibber McGee and Molly at a relatively early age - certainly Matthew Brock knew about it :)

Glad you are enjoying it! I just think the way you came to it in the article from the angle of "it probably isn't a show for me" really rubbed people the wrong way. It seems strange to me that a professional critic (and I really enjoyed your 30 Rock reviews) would have such a blind spot to this era. Back in the mid

Which makes it even more baffling that half the reviewers are like "what's WKRP??" The AVClub obviously has a very passionate commenting section, and it honestly surprises me that anyone on the staff is surprised by our negative reaction to this article.

Ah, sorry about that.

In my first sentence I acknowledge that in fact the reviewers eventually get to the actual show and that it is in fact good. But almost all of them came from a point of "what is this old show their forcing us to watch?" which is what is rubbing the commentariat the wrong way. Why even start there?

"What's that thing on your car door?" "The window crank." This is a conversation I actually once had.

I've only seen one comment saying that we are overreacting, but holy crap it is annoying that these great shows are not only not on these critics' radars but seem to be harshly pre-judged simply based on the time-period they were made.

NewsRadio truly is worth watching, and I say this as a huge WKRP fan as well.

My disappointment was a lot less measured, but I did single out my appreciation that you had searched some of this out :) I watched these shows as a kid (I'm 44) and so to see critics being snotty about having to watch shows like WKRP really irks me. If nothing else, why not just trust that the commenters here know

Sigh. Just, sigh. I was so excited for this come up and I guess I should be grateful that after virtually every reviewer opened their discussion with ageist and snobbish remarks that they eventually conceded that yes, this is a freaking awesome episode of television. This is a really good show guys, and so were

Sherlock actually appeared at the end of the episode The Reichenbach Falls, so not really a spoiler. Also, the stories are 100+ years old, so there's that as well.
Also, I was not a fan of Moriarty in this series so I'm really glad he's gone.

The Detroit Tigers beg to differ.

NewsRadio is a great comparison. Talk about a show that's just straight-up funny and endlessly rewatchable with virtually no character growth or development. B-99 definitely seems to be moving in that direction for me.

Great news! Any idea if that will come to DVD sometime?
