Yeah, that bit pretty much epitomizes everything wrong with The AV Club these days: Snarkiness for its own sake, and not nearly as clever or well-informed as it thinks.  I still follow some of the TV reviews, and O'Neal's as great as ever, but I'm spending way less time here.  Sad, really.

With all respect to Gilda, I think Crow T. Robot's Lucille Ball is the greatest.

The DVDs are a great way to go, just because the commentaries are well worth a listen.

But it wasn't just that she lost her powers.  It was the cost of that loss—to herself, to the people she loved, to Republic City itself.  Her low point wasn't that she was bummed—it was realizing that being the Avatar wasn't enough.

Except…the whole point of the show is that she DOES learn humility.  She's brought as low as she can possibly be, and at that moment—only at that moment—she finally discovers her spiritual side.  Being pig-headed and restless tended to get her in trouble.  And as for being entitled…well, she's the Avatar, after all.

Across 110th Street is also a terrific movie by any standards.
