You murdered your child, you didn’t even make it a clean death! What the hell is wrong with you?

Whatever happens, we’re not taking him back. He’s your problem now America!

I thought that when I saw his mugshot too. Something about him screams don’t trust me.

Sadly, the Nietzsche quote about ““he who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster” applies here.

Extradition cases tend to get messy fast. Especially when like Malaysia they have the death penalty. Might have just been easier to get him into prison quickly if he was sentenced in the UK

“The tariff is the minimum period a life sentence prisoner must serve to meet the requirements of retribution and deterrence before being considered for release. After this minimum period has been served release will only take place where the prisoner is judged no longer a risk of harm to the public.”

The parole board

I feel you. Guy’s a monster. Be happy that he will have a terrible, terrible time in jail. He might not even make it to 25 years...

It’s not a lenient sentence. The way UK law works, he’s effectively been sentenced to life imprisonment. He will never get past a parole board.

Trust me, the 25 years is just window dressing. The reality is he is never leaving prison. The minimum sentence in this case is pretty much meaningless, he’s going to jail until he dies or until he’s so old that he’s completely ga-ga.

ECHR only raised issues with whole life tarrifs. Doesn’t apply here.

He will. The possibility of parole in cases like this is just a legal front. He won’t be getting out anytime before flying cars and moon shuttles. Chances are he will die in prison.

Yes. And so do the juries who have to review the material as part of the case.

Could be released. He won’t be though. Life without parole (whole life tariffs) are reserved only for serial killers in this country, but he won’t be released under a life sentence until he can convince a parole board he no longer represents a risk to the community. That will pretty much never happen.
