I don't know about the German plants, but in the us, 50% of the plants power is from turbines running off of methane reclaimed from a local landfill. I wouldn't be surprised if the power for the German plants was something other than coal.

The slow intermittent setting for my wipers is too slow, and the next step up is usually too fast for our Arizonan "rain". Since I'm in the arid zone, I have some really cheap wipers that squeak terribly if they aren't pushing enough water. I'm always fiddilling with my wipers too.
