The school where I work has pads for girls (in the front office and in the nurse’s office, and for that matter, in most of the female teachers’ desks if the girls ask), but we’re actually not allowed to give them tampons. Apparently it’s a liability issue. If a girl uses a tampon and gets toxic shock or something then

I teach in a public school, and everyone is selling the idea of the “next big fix” for education, when really what we need are smaller classes, smaller class loads, better retention work to keep good teachers in classroom, and student who come to school fed, clothed, housed and with a bit of stability in their lives.

he thinks EVERYTHING is an economic issue. He’s a single issue candidate. It makes sense why people are so fired up about him- millenials are struggling. But he’s also the classic “if the only tool you have is a hammer every problem is a nail.”

I heard an interview with Danny Harrison, George Harrison’s son, and it was a really interesting look at what it’s like to have a famous parent. He was talking about how you have this whole life with this person, and it’s your mother or father, so they’re yours. But in another sense, a just a real sense, they belong

My grandmother has started giving her things away so her daughters don’t fight after she passes.

She had to be. My mom is a die-hard Republican, hates Hillary Clinton, but even she has some grudging respect for her. She’s fought for decades to be taken seriously, and honestly, whether or not your voting for her, you have to acknowledge that she is a force to be reckoned with.

3-I also allow students who stay for tutoring/detentions to use my phone to call their parents. BUT when I do that I dial the number, hand them the phone, watch them talk to their parent, and then immediately get my phone back. I would never just GIVE a child my phone.

That sucks. I teach at a public high school, and I can give you the insights I have, but a lot of it depends on the state and the laws guiding bullying in that state. (and whether your niece at a public or private school, I believe there are different liabilities/requirements then).

Someone I know made this argument (a man) and my response was “You’re right. People who don’t want kids should stop having sex. All of those people. Men too.”

Is that Mark Ruffalo? How hammered is he?

I just re-read it, and I think that sentence is saying “glancing contact” which is a weird way to put it, but I get it I guess?

I think you literally just summed up the entire election.

Yes! So glad you’re also obsessed :)

I’m pretty sure that you can’t use a confidentiality to cover up a crime. If she’s been talking to the press, fine. But I don’t think he can sue her for talking to the police.

Scarlett Johansson filmed Avengers 2 (including some of her own stunts) while pregnant and is therefore my pregnancy hero/icon because goddamn.

A friend of mine is helping her daughter sell girl scout cookies, and they’re really setting themselves apart by offering to deliver to your house.

I got like four episodes in, stopped watching for the day and never started again. When my boyfriend (the king of binging, btw) and I realized we’d stopped, we were both like, “Meh. I don’t really care what happens to anyone.”

He’s lovely! The D-Train was filmed at the school where I work so he was walking around during filming, etc. And, while he was working, he was a little curt (which is fair, because I at one point left my classroom and started telling off crew members who were loudly wandering the halls while my students were testing)
