I’d send my kid if I had one to a race track to learn how to drive anything. Despite hauling arse around a track there are a lot of lessons to be learned there and a big one is situational awareness. Then you have proper driving position and vehicle control and so on. The only thing I think they skimp on is setting up

That was my mom 100%, my dad was spoiled with a new cars (my grand parents tried go bribe him to stay in school) and in turn wanted to get me a car. She was having none of it so I went through a bunch of beaters I bought with cash and financed all the nice stuff on my own. Honestly wouldn't do it any other way if I

Pick-ups and SUVs are just bad period. I remember one year they were really racking up fatalities in my old AO. See a headline about a teen dieing and it invariably involved a truck or SUV and a ramp.

I’d be fine with RWD, it didn’t seem especially dangerous back in the day and when I was coming along ABS was for rich folks. The only problem I see with RWD today outside of trucks is that with the current crop of cars at least they are almost all exclusively sporty/sports vehicles so a bad situation from the jump.

All jokes aside, manuals are great for teaching drivers to think ahead. I’m fairly certain I’m not going to add to the population at this point in life but if I had a kid a manual trans car would be in the program. I’m fine with all the assist features but I know they would be genetically predisposed to getting on a

lol, reminds me if the time someone in high-school got a Supra and promptly wrecked it then got another and wrecked it and finally got saddled with a big ol' station wagon. Told that story and it was topped by a kid that got an M3 and wrecked it and got a Viper to replace it.

lol, Michigan. When I was there for NAIAS I was amazed at how they had the zipper merge down pat. Being from southeast VA where a zipper merge is considered an insult on par with insulting one’s partner it was awesome but at the same time it seems Michigan etiquette demands you don’t accelerate faster than the vehicle

Not a fan of EVs but I hope to see the return of performance sedans and wagons by the broader market. EVs are less costly to produce (just look at the margin Teslas have) so low margin vehicles are more feasible. I commented earlier how I wouldn't be caught dead in a Mach-E but make it a low slung wagon that looks

Well some ICE cars, that seems mostly an indictment of German performance cars and lux brands in general. The affordable RWD stuff isn’t too bad and the stuff that makes them overtly complex. Things like magnetorhelogical dampers, torque vectoring diffs (until we get to four separate motors) are still applicable. Plus

lol, 53 and already there with my GT350. When I contract a debilitating disease that insurance refuses to cover the added bonus will be prying my old, cold, carbon monoxide soaked claws off the steering wheel!

PHEVs have their place like say Texas in the winter time! But yeah, for the most part it’s expensive redundancy and less reliable prone to self immolation than either a pure ICE or EV.

There are better sources for ethanol than corn (switch grass for instance and can be grown in fallow fields when crops are rotated). The corn industry as a fuel source needs to go impale itself and go for a spin since it’s just there to prop up industrial farming.

lol, now you can be in the “I pity the poors stuck with their archaic gas engines coupled to transmissions” crowd.

Yeah the CDC entry wasn't very helpful when it didn't describe a large dose.

I was thinking the same thing. I'll take my chances with the cesium-137 capsule over the fauna. At least the capsule isn't ambulatory... yet...

lol, yeah, why not just say a tad under a third of an inch length and a bit under a quarter inch in width. Although Sean below said it best with the calculator button analogy.

When Jack Baruth opined about the Nûrburgring being the world’s longest dyno run, he wasn’t far off the mark. Speed and momentum are as valid for getting around the track as a car that is adroit and quick.

That is inevitable as manufacturers will always want to flex their technical prowess and of course translate that into some form of marketing. Even the F40 was a flex by Ferrari (along with the F50, La Ferrari and so on).

or driven for that matter.

While it’s always satisfying to watch a vehicle hustle around the ‘ring. The lap time bit has become stale. Especially since it’s become the go to unit of measure in the interwebz bench racing penis measuring contest. Granted we all live vicariously through those lap times but in a world where there are so many
