Remember the EPA recalculated its MPG ratings to better reflect real world driving so the numbers dropped. Also in some cases manufacturers were posting inflated numbers. Ford and a few Japanese manufacturers come to mind.

Ford said part of the reason they choose the D7 over the A10 was for durability and torque capacity.
