“Something people value and something people use are 2 different things.”
“Minecraft is cross-platform on Windows 10, Xbox One, VR, IOS, Android and last, but not least, -the Nintendo Switch.”
True. Then again, it depends on the game and if there’s parity between the different versions. Like nobody wants to play a shooter on a console against players on PC, because of the obvious advantages for PC players.
While that would be great for the players, it wouldn’t benefit the platform makers. I hope you’re right but because of technical hurdles and licensing issues I don’t think we’ll have cross-platform support anytime soon.
Yeah me neither. The player pool is big enough on each platform anyway.
Yeah that was my entire point. The platform makers need to let their platforms communicate with eachother and integrate social features in order for cross-network play to make sense.
Too bad you will only be able to play with your friend on a private server. And only if you let him know the name and the password of that server first.
That works because many Xbox and Microsoft 10 games now share the same Universal Windows Applications (UWA) ecosystem. Don’t expect Sony or Nintendo to ever use that.
Like I said in other comments, the player pool for each platform already is huge with PS4 at roughly 100K and PC and Xbox at 50K respecitvely. But I agree that niche game modes and high level players would probably appreciate it.
That would be nice, but I don’t think developers could just add a cross-platform friends list without the consent and help of the platform makers.
With a player pool of roughly 100K on PS4 and 50K on Xbox and PC respectively, I don’t think a unified player pool will make much of a difference.
Yep. That’s why I have cross-network play disabled. PC players and their crazy frame rates! 😋
I always had my doubts that a cross-platform service like that would become reality one day. Not only because of the technical hurdles and licensing problems. I’d think that a cross-platform service like that wouldn’t be beneficial for the platform makers. People buy the system that their friends play on.
Yeah, the game takes much longer to load on PS4. And if you enable cross-network play as a PC player you’ll have to wait. I can see how that can be annoying for PC players.
Fair point and I hope you’re right.
Why would I want a bigger pool of players if there are currently 97K people playing on PS4, 56K on PC and 55K on Xbox.
Why do people care about cross-network play? PlayStation is already doing it. In Rocket League. With PC players. And what are the benefits? I can’t add PC players to my friends list. I can’t voice-chat in a party with them. I can’t group up in Rocket League with them. The only thing I can do, is create a private game…
You can’t lower the difficulty after you changed it to Hard/Ultra Hard?
