But you gotta own it

I’m really enjoying these articles on the romance genre. While I don’t read the genre (these articles are making me reconsider; I’m a sucker for good historical fiction w/ female protagonists), I’m always interested to read about women, particularly WOC, in the publishing world.

Yup! I think black women feel the need to defend Kanye b/c some of his criticism is due to racism. However, Kanye has demonstrated time and time again that he does not want to demolish racism/sexism. He doesn't want to destroy white men's privileged "seat at the table". He wants to sit right down next him. And, women?

Thanks for the write up. I've been wondering if I should see this movie, as the tv trailers make it look like a direct-to-Lifetime tv movie.

Yes, it is important. And, in hindsight, I should have explained more in my OP what I meant by the "mis-usage of feminism". These types of post tend to attract trolls and I can understand people being on-guard about a burner posting.

Thank you for your well reasoned reply. I can see where you are coming from. But, the problems with buzzwords are that they are trends. Make a quick buck using a term (today it's "selfie" and "feminism" tomorrow it will be something else) then move on to the next fad.

I haven't seen it too often. But, I'm thinking it may be a generational divide thing. I'm somewhere between a 2nd wave and 3rd wave feminist/womanist (2 1/2 wave?), so my perception of feminism is different.

You didn't reply to anything I typed. I explained why mainstream media's use of feminism is troublesome. But, you decided to ignore that to type out a snarky reply.

Yes, this is what I mean. Mainstream media has caught on that "Feminism" is the buzzword of the year and will use it to sell anything. That's why I'm always cautious of when I see things marketed towards me with those words on it. They don't care about the movement; they don't care about destroying the barriers women

(Eh. Jezebel tries to shy away from being called a feminist blog so this post is kind of funny) But, I think that part of the problem is that so many things that fuel the patricarchy have been veiled in "Feminism" and "Empowering" and "Agency." I can understand why some people (the logical ones, not the trolls

Literally and figuratively showing their asses

This! Thank you for saying this. When it comes to issues with POC, particularly black women and black men, Gawker/Jez comments tend to miss the big picture.

Right? We really need to stop propping up these unattainable images. Many people (men and women) do not realize that these "candids" are retouched. Hell, even women here on Jezebel don't realize a lot of the images they see have been pinched, liquefied and plumped in Photoshop (or a surgeons office). I've seen
