Honestly, I enjoy shooting and hunting. But I’d enjoy not worrying about my kids coming home from school even more. No one is using a bolt action .30-06 for a mass shooting though. But if it means I can worry a little less, I’d throw every rifle in a furnace.

What’s an infantry man issued? A rifle. If WW2 rifles were so good, I'm genuinely confused why Uncle Sam didn't issue me a M1 Garand in 1992.

There's more restrictions on owning and using a car. Most states require insurance. Many states require regular inspection. You have to pass a driver's test. And if you do something bad, you can have your license taken away.
