Has Apple changed the default? My MacBook Pro has always automatically gone into regular sleep unless the battery was on the brink of depletion. Then and only then would it go into the long, slow, laborious hibernate process of writing all memory to disk.

Every few weeks?! My blades go dull after just a few shaves. I typically have to use a new blade after just three or four shaves. How on earth do y'all make yours last a few weeks, let alone a month or more?!

@katana (and others): AAC is actually a standard format. It is a part of the MPEG-2 and 4 standards (MP3 is also a part of the MPEG-2 standard). As such, it is not under Apple's control. DeeJayQueue: It most definitely violates the DMCA. The DMCA prohibits the breaking of certain copy protection mechanisms, even if you would otherwise legitimately be able to copy the data, and even if the copy protection mechanism (in this case, the CSS encryption on the DVD) is poorly implemented.

There's also the free MacTheRipper. It might not be as slick, but I use it all the time to put a DVD on my laptop for transcontinental flights. It's a great trick to boost battery life, since it costs less power to spin the hard drive than to spin the DVD drive.
