If we want fewer people driving, we need to make it harder to get a license, not more expensive to drive a car.

So here is my politically incorrect gripe. Daytime running lights are a farce. If you can’t see your car in broad daylight you aren’t paying attention. And if we need to have glaring lights on the front of the car then what about the sides in the rear we should have glaring lights there are 360° coverage.

Any performance car with over 400 bhp should require a performance driving class of some sort. Too many shit-necks killing people outside cars and coffee.

Using V2V technology, drivers should be able to ‘tag’ other drivers/vehicles for driving like an idi0t. If enough vehicles in proximity to you (say 5+) tag you at the same time (say within 5 minutes) you get fined/points on your DL. Piss off enough people because you’re jerk or too dumb to drive, eventually you can’t

All headlights should be automatic, not selectable by the driver. Way too many m0rons driving around these days with only their DRLs on during the night because the dashboard is lit up.

Driver’s license requirements in the US are too lax. And I say this as someone who counted down the years, months and days... including delaying our family’s move to another state.... to get my driver’s license the first moment I could.

Trucks are absurdly big and have heavily contributed to a historically high pedestrian death rate. They are a danger to everyone around them and should be banned barring someone having a CDL. This would apply to any vehicle weighing more than 4500lbs and larger than an older Tacoma. People in reasonably sized cars

Digital gauges are horrible. I want real Tach, Speed, Temp, and Fuel gauges. (I would also like Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, and an Ammeter, but that’s probably asking too much.) I don’t want to cycle menus to find these basic pieces of information. I don’t need stupid animated crap to liven up my dashboard.

This is exactly why I advocated for federal automobile registration in this thread; to avoid the stupid patchwork of state regulations that can be changed at the whim of whatever stupid people get a hold of a state legislature.

Sure, but then say they are not freeway legal, don’t ban them outright. There are plenty of vehicles which can be registered for city streets but not freeways (small motorcycles/scooters, golf carts, etc.)

Driving any vehicle that is classified as a light truck for fuel economy purposes should require a CDL.

Kei cars are clearly bleeding these organizations dry. Never understimate the pettiness of corporations.

“Also, bear in mind that a car going 5 mph under the speed limit is more likely to cause a crash than a car going 5 mph over.”

I spy some suspects:

I can’t help but think there’s an ulterior motive here..

My father rode motorcycles when he and our mother were young and married and didn’t have kids, and then shortly after their first kid (I’m one of four), he had a really serious crash that he was VERY lucky to walk away from unscathed. He and my mom decided that was a sign for him to retire from riding.

I would much rather drive one of these adorable little guys than the massive monster trucks that have far less actual utility that are currently clogging up US roadways.

This organization tried to pull this stunt in MA, as noted. But MA citizens pushed back and Kei’s are now allowed in MA.

I can’t help but think there’s an ulterior motive here, though I have yet to find a direct link to a big corporate sponsor who would benefit from no Kei cars being on the road. Why not go after motorcycles, if this is all about safety? Surely there’s no debate that a Kei car is far safer than a motorcycle.

Why are we wasting time and money on this?
