Hertz can swear out a false report for the not-stolen vehicles. There have been several cases of people yanked from cars with guns aimed at them and fingers on triggers, with cops screaming to “stop resisting” as the cops do a knee drop onto their head because Hertz did just that.

Maybe. I think 2 years from now cops will be pitting those cars off the highway with hapless renters getting guns and Tasers and pepper spray until they “stop resisting.”

Yes, yes he did. He keeps swearing to never do another story on Hertz that is a repeat, but Hertz keeps coming up with entirely new twists.

It’s not theft. Hertz already has their payment information on file and has given them a reservation. Anything else is to prevent those who do not have payment info or a reservation from taking them. Unless the contract that is part of that reservation says different, the renters held up their part and it was Hertz

They already had contracts in hand which is how they knew which cars to take.

Unfair. AFAIK Spirit Airlines hasn’t held passengers at gun point face down on the airport apron in the roasting sunshine.

Three. US Space Shuttle, Buran, X-37. As a cargo carrier one needs some internal volume for lengthy structural elements; a need not required for people.

The carbon-carbon composite is the reason it’s black, not for emissivity. At the temperatures the surfaces reach, the color is nearly immaterial. There might be an advantage to rejecting heat while in orbit that is received from the sunshine, though every direction away from the Sun is a pretty good radiative

The majority of people want a basic inclusive service. They understand the concept of extras, but they don’t understand that the basics are line-item negotiable.

Rat Race 2025

The windows only need to move enough to pry them and break them. If the edge of the glass is protected it can be very durable. but if the edge is exposed it’s 50x weaker.

It’s not the exact same situation. Cars with conventional electric door locks unlock the door upon the triggering of the airbags, allowing the manual handles on the outside of the car to allow access by rescuers.

Door locks are used for locking the door. In many cars those are automatically released on release of the airbags. This also allows external rescuers to open the doors.

You miss the secret. The manual release is wimpy crap. They could have added a microswitch so that as soon as it is pulled the window cranks down, just like using the button, but then people would wear out the crappy manual release. You get to yell at people for Tesla’s poor design decision.

That is a huge lever with the door lock button in the middle of it.

I had a car new from 1987 that had frameless windows.

You had to stop them because the design sucks. The manual release should durable enough to use every single time, but I bet it isn’t durable. So they didn’t add a back-up switch to drop the window however far to the manual release and then make it the owner’s problem to fix the now improperly operating window.

It would be trivial to wire a window retract switch to the manual release as there is zero chance a passenger can snap the door open faster than the window can move a few millimeters.

The GPS is in the cell phone and the find-it function is shipped as part of every iPhone to report every tag that is near an iPhone that is part of the find-it network.
