What’s left unsaid in all the rebuttals (which I agree with) to your post is that this strategy allows Mazda to spread the same number of batteries over a larger number of cars. That’s the big bottleneck in EV production right now as we’ve seen time and time again .

They did sell a hotrod Spark in the prior gen that checked all those boxes except the sticky tires (easily fixable yourself) and the manual transmission (actually no transmission at all). It was the Spark EV. You just point, floor the pedal, and hold on for dear life. It was  awesome.

In the OP’s situation given that they’re buying a Honda (holds value well), putting a good chunk down as a downpayment, and presumably their loan term isn’t outrageous agreed that GAP is almost always something they try to guilt you in to purely to make a quick buck.
