As a lover of cheap EVs (on my second!) I fully support this. Not everyone needs or can afford a Tesla (even a Model 3 which is BMW money).

I leased a Spark EV. It was excellent. It also cost $130 a month with zero down, and near zero running costs. Was awesome for city driving and as a commuter - all the car you need for such use.

Ouch - that’s crazy expensive. I was a bit off on my insurance quotes. Our Subau (2016 Outback) and E46 are pretty cheap in the $150/6 mos range, but my Bolt lease is $295/6 months...so it’s not unreasonable that a more expensive car would cost $500+.

Yeah I guess it’s smart for anyone who doesn’t already have a car - so it’s a very hassle free process. But even factoring in insurance that’s quite a premium you’re paying, instead of say just adding a vehicle on to your existing auto policy, which for me comes to around $100-150 per six months of coverage.
