Noted, but fungi are opisthokonts, meaning that they aren’t plants but in fact close relatives of animals.

She’s done a fabulous job with the Far Sector comics she created for DC, so I’m actually pretty optimistic she can write quality material for other media.

One of the things I love about this column (and, to a lesser extent, Tom’s Popcorn Champs) is that I can start reading it with no idea or interest in the movie but it’s so well written that by the end, the movie has found its way onto my watchlist for the evening!

I feel like Ingrid Goes West did a good job because it never lost sight of its characters as characters and was more about how we all wear masks/perform identities, Instagram or no.

It makes me tear up a little thinking of it, this is one actor whose death actually gave me feelings.

I miss PSH so damn much.  His loss left a big damn crater in the world.  Can you imagine the work he would’ve done in the era of Too Much TV?

I think at some point in yesteryear men would still preface assessments of women’s looks with “not to be a dog but...” before “DID YOU SEE THOSE GAZANGAS”

They should change the name of the Aquafina brand to Noraluma just to spite her.

It is just sort of weird to have the protagonist in an MCU be an actual adult. We’ve had a long line of man-children (looking at you, Tony), the rich and sheltered, occasional out-and-out trauma victims, and one actual child. Even T’Challa was very naïve at the start of his movie. From the his first minutes on screen

They hate the awful cash-grab that is multiple covers to the same comic book?

Far and away his worst habit as a filmmaker is trying to explain things with dialog (or big setpieces). King Kong has a whole scene where Jack Black has to convince the ship’s captain to set sail ahead of schedule because studio goons (or something) are coming for Black’s equipment, and that’s why Adrian Brody doesn’t

When it finally gets to Skull Island, the movie really takes off. It’s fantastic to watch and the T-rex fight is just so well choreographed with Kong dropping Ann from one hand to keep a dino from eating her and catching her in the other. It just takes so damned long to get there, though. There’s way too much

About the church scene, while it is overall a too-drastic change of tone, I do think there’s an element of black comedy in the fact that while Peter Parker is engaging in this hugely dramatic battle over his soul with an alien being possessing him, Eddie Brock is in the church underneath loudly begging God Himself to

I thought everyone was already aware that Q lives in the top of the Chrysler Building, where it lays in wait for Michael Moriarty to feed it the occasional gangster.

I love You Can Count on Me (first thing I ever saw Ruffalo in), and I agree that the narrative strategies of both films are similar, but I think the dramatic focus of Margaret is sufficiently different to warrant repeated screenings of both.

I’m still absolutely amazed nobody’s making an Imajica series. It’s perfect material for prestige TV.

Did we need three whole glorified deleted scenes of boring space invader Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds, unrecognizable in voice and appearance) teleconferencing his progress to a flunky of future franchise heavy Darkseid?”

There’s a reason for which Sellers delivered most of his best work with Blake Edwards and Stanley Kubrick.

I love how they don’t even try to hide that that was NOT the line as spoken on set.

There are people who are really and sincerely nice to the people they like and really horrible to anyone they don’t like.  I had a friend like that.  They were incredibly kind to me and I didn’t understand the dislike others had for them until I actually saw them “in action.” It was like night and day.
