Yes, in the book it was Ultraman instead of Iron Giant, IIRC. They just couldn’t get the rights to Ultraman for the movie.

There was a THIS AMERICAN LIFE episode that had a segment about Call Centers in Mexico staffed with people who’d been deported from the U.S., where Mexicans with good American accents are prized.
