I’ve argued this point of ages as well and the amount of animosity it brings out of people. I got blocked by some butt-hurt dude today because I asked him why he was so angry at me for not wanting to have my ass handed to me every match by people I can’t compete with.

‘the game is only fun for me if I can tell myself I’m making it not fun for someone else’.

The core real complaint is that SBMM makes it so that good people have to sweat every match. If you’re at a certain skill level in the game then any reasonable amount of SBMM means you’re gonna face 360 noscope gods almost every match.

Now, I’d argue 2 things against that. 1) Trials is the pinnacle end-game of PvP, so

I understand that steps are being made here but unless something has changed very recently I don’t understand how anyone would consider a system that places full, organized teams against a group of randos ‘fair’ by any stretch at all.

A lot of hate for skill based match making is understandable if you’re at the 50% mark or above.
For the folks below that level, they’re getting stomped on regularly.

Basically, I’m curious how much one can just ignore all the other stuff and just... play Destiny ‘cuz it’s fun.

I like Destiny 2.

A lot like WoW, when I was doing D2 raids I thought they were the least fun part of the game

I understand it Destiny is not a game you can play in 45 minute-a-day chunks.

This all sounds very familiar to me. Recently returned after about two years away. I used to be on that leading edge of players in D1 & early D2 — max power, all the good gear, running all the hardest PvE content (have never been much into PvP), etc. — but it got harder to commit the time necessary to stay on top of

Whoops, yes, you are right. Kinja throws fits when you have one comment open for editing and try to open a comment somewhere else.

What I *meant* to post here was that there is definitely a Zen moment when you learn to free yourself from the expectations of God Rolls. Aside from being annoying to try to earn, they can

I’ve been playing for about 6 of the 7 years the game has been out, with intermittent breaks mostly in D2. For the most part I’ve been logging in two or three times a week to do my weekly stuff and just taking it relaxingly.

Oh I’m definitely old enough to remember that time. ha ha! Hell, I’ve been working IN television since 2002.  I’ve seen a lot change in that time. But that is an excellent metaphor. The world keeps on turning whether you engage with it or not. You can either catch up or walk off. That’s how these games have to be

Cayde6 was killed by Uldren...who’d been corrupted by Savathun, who had also corrupted Riven the wish dragon in the Dreaming City

I think dropping the obligation or expectation that I'm going to raid might be a good idea for me if I end up picking it back up with this new expansion

I think that honestly Bungie did themselves a disservice by pretending that Beyond Light was an expansion. Beyond Light was Destiny 3- hell, the reason the old content is gone is because they replaced the damn engine and didn’t want to go back and re-do all the old content. That’s a new game if I’ve ever heard of one.

I think the answer to this question is a bit nuanced. I think the game is definitely still fun. But what isn’t fun is coming back to the game, after having been at the peak, been able to play all the content and enjoy it - only to find yourself faced with a weeks long grind to get back there, because you dared to take

I do not like FPS games. Nothing about it clicks with me. Didn’t like Doom, didn’t like Halo. Didn’t like Wolfenstein, Borderlands, or Far Cry. None of it clicked with me at all.

HA! Of course it is. While that game also has layers upon layers of new shit to slog through, I feel like I can pretty much go at my own pace and figure those things out as I need them. Whereas Destiny 2 is now like “Oh, you’re back! Well, we’re just gonna plop you into the middle of a story mission to get you started

Yeah, for sure. Also, I clearly haven’t spent enough time in the Cosmodrome since it came back. Guess I’m gonna go do some patrols after work.
